- Make sure your spacing between the bollards meets the ADA guidelines. According to these guidelines, your bollards need to have at least 3 feet of distance between them. It should allow a disabled person in a wheelchair to easily and safely pass through them.
- The positioning of your bollards changes when it’s used for traffic or vehicle management. In that context, your bollards should have not more than 5 feet of space between them – minimum width of an average car.
- You should set the bollards around 1.5 feet away from the curbs to allow enough room for the driver and passengers to open the door of their car and come outside. Follow this guideline when you are using bollards in parking lots or for parking space.
- Large bollards are also used outside docks to help drivers park the truck in the right position to prevent it from hitting the building, assets, another vehicle, or causing damage. It is recommended to place the bollards 6 inches to the right and left of the door. Make sure there’s enough space left for the truck to completely fit in, leaving 1-2 foot extra space on both sides.
